Trailer Towing FAQ's

Do I need a trailer licence?
This depends on when you passed your car driving test, but to be safe if you intend to tow a trailer on the public road then you must have a BE entitlement on your licence, if you don't already have this then you may need to pass the trailer towing test.

What do I need to be able to take the test?
All you need is a current UK driving licence with a valid category B (car) entitlement.

Do I need to use my own car or trailer?
We will supply everything that you need to take the test, including a suitable car and trailer. Some people prefer to use their own car with our trailer, this is fine but please let us know in advance so that we can check that your car is accepted by DVSA for the test.

Do I need to apply for a provisional licence or pass a theory test?
Thankfully no, your car theory test will have covered the trailer aspect and you should already have a provisional trailer entitlement on your car driving licence. Please ensure that your licence is valid and in date, if you need any help or advice checking any of this please contact us.

How much training will I need?
That depends on your current abilities and experience, please visit our trailer courses page where we describe which course may be suitable. If you are unsure, then please contact us.

Are all your instructors fully qualified?
Yes, all of our instructors are fully qualified Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) registered Approved Driving Instructors (ADI's).

Do Examiners have a quota of passes?

No they don’t. Examiner’s results are closely monitored to ensure that the examiners’ are keeping within the DVSA’s marking criteria.

Why should I use Supreme Driver Training for my trailer training?
